Counselling Defined

Counselling offers a space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, process life events and be listened to without judgement by a trained counsellor who will respect you and your story.

 

As the client, the session is yours, and you hold autonomy of the space. The Counsellor's role is to listen and support you to explore the challenges you are experiencing.

 

Counselling is not typically about giving advice. As the client, you hold the answers to your individual challenge. The Counsellor is there to listen to you, facilitate exploration and appropriately challenge, to support you reach your therapeutic goals. 

Ideally, counselling takes place at the same time and location on a weekly basis. Short term counselling usually consists of 6-12 sessions, long term counselling can be open ended.

At JourneyOn, we acknowledge that counselling is not widely accessed by all groups within society. It is our aim to challenge that, remove barriers and work towards introducing counselling as a tool for all to maintain healthy emotional well-being.

Whether you have been in long term therapy previously, or are curious about how it works for the first time, JourneyOn are able to provide a confidential space for you.

 

Danielle is an Integrative Counsellor. This means that she integrates two different approaches in her client work; person centred and psychodynamic.

In short, these two approaches combined mean that clients can explore issues felt in the present, whilst considering their past experiences and how they may impact on what is happening now. 

People receive counselling for a number of reasons. 

  • Exploration and personal development

  • Experiencing anxiety, sadness or worry

  • During times of loss, loneliness or bereavement

  • Feelings of anger, stress or frustration

  • Questioning identity, purpose, sexuality or relationships

  • Difficulties in relationships 

  • Struggling to move past experiences, relationships or situations which have had a lasting impact
